Modified Toys

Speakandspell_1 One of the highlights of ContentLab 2006 was the conference dinner entertainment from Brian Duffy's Modified Toy Orchestra. Armed with only a Texas Instrument's Speak and Spell, a Touch and Tell, a Barbie and kids drum machine, the band went on to make sweet music. Well OK... it was a little harsh on the ear, but the crowd loved it. I'm still holding my breath for the ZX Spectrum Orchestra.

Big Chill 2005

Wasp We headed off to the Big Chill festival near the Malverns two weekends ago. Its the ultimate in middle-class ex-raving Londoners find themselves again. We had a great time, camping with friends and throwing ourselves into the middle of Norman Jay. Somehow it felt better bigger, with more going on, but also more commercial. R&O loved the Art Trail - highlights included the Last 3600 seconds of wasp by Zatorski & Zatorski, where we literally watched a wasp gasping for its last hour of life on some technicolour flowers (OK, we didn't watch all of it) and beautiful flying horses projected through the trees. The wasp inspired all sorts of 'deep' and 'meaningful' questions from 4 year olds - like 'Why do they make wasps?' and 'What happens to wasps when they die?' So it wasn't big or clever,Bigchill2005  but it did seem remarkably sad.

Looking forward to next year... more festivals, friends, and fun!
